Discipline and problems Bus Ministry

Terri, I am a graduate of Hyles Anderson College. I have been working the bus routes for 10 years now. I started a bus route at my home church 6 years ago. I am a stickler for discipline. I do not allow any kind of disrespect on the bus. I do not allow any fighting, calling names, etc. My bus kids know what happens when I catch them doing any of the above. The first offense, I tell the parents what happened, and tell them that, that kind of behavior is not allowed on the bus at all, and I tell them if it happens again, they will be suspended from the bus for 1 week. If it happens again, 2 week suspension, etc. I want to give them a chance. If the problem persists, let them go. My kids walk the line, all I have to do is look at them and they know I mean business. Never let a child control your route. You have to be firm in your discipline. You have to keep the parents posted. And you must record, any time that you have to correct a child. Stand your ground. I have had to raise my voice several times, but the kids still come and I have their utmost respect. It\'s called \"tough love\". I always tell them, if they don\'t like the rules, they don\'t have to come.
