I think that we can overthink this....Is it truly the belief of the majority of Christians that you have to "believe" the right things and say the right things in order to be "saved"?
John the Baptist said the Kingdom was at hand...Jesus said the Kingdom is HERE. We need to live the examples set forth by Jesus...love our neighbor....and to have faith LIKE Jesus, not necessarily IN Jesus.
To say that a modern day Jew is not "saved" is neurotic and egocentric. Why do we believe that Jesus is the Son of God....Our Lord and Savior (both are words taught by the Augustinian Roman empire, not by God)...and that He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins? Is it so that we get to go to Heaven? Or are we a bit deeper? Is it because we wish to live the love that Jesus taught and that we understand that Jesus died BECAUSE of our sins...not FOR them. Grace ceases to be grace once we place conditions on it.
